Gradelle tower +

Renovation of a 16-story residential building while remaining fully occupied.

Located on the outskirts of Geneva, La Gradelle is a residential neighborhood composed of a group of apartment buildings and public facilities, reflecting the 1960s satellite city movement.

Urgent restoration of the 16-story tower designed by architect Jean Hentsch was required to address concrete carbonation on the façades, which are made of prefabricated elements.

A detailed assessment of the existing conditions, along with a targeted intervention strategy, was implemented to propose a renovation that respects the original design as much as possible. A balance was achieved between improving energy performance and preserving heritage.

The façades were restored, some prefabricated elements replaced, the building envelope insulated, and the windows upgraded to enhance energy efficiency. Technical installations and fire safety systems were also brought up to current standards. The works are carried out on an occupied site (48 apartments), with regular communication with tenants and close coordination between architects, engineers, and property management.
